Trans and Gender Diverse Inclusion
Join Vicsport and Proud 2 Play as we celebrate Trans and Gender Diverse People in sport.
This event is designed to strengthen the Victorian sports industry's knowledge and confidence when engaging and supporting Trans and Gender Diverse People (TGD) in sport.
Session Overview
The full day forum will begin with a screening of the documentary "Equal the Contest" in the theatrette at the State Netball Hockey Centre.
Following the screening there will be an opportunity to hear from key contributors to the film before unpacking our learnings in an afternoon workshop.
Equal the Contest is a documentary about the Mt Alexander Falcons, a local community AFL club led by and for women and gender-diverse people. When filmmaker Mitch joins the new footy club in Regional Victoria, a simple desire to play becomes a complex journey of inclusion and belonging. This documentary and the Falcon's story provide a fantastic snapshot of how inclusivity can be achieved in the sporting landscape and is a motivational story that will give you the inspiration you need to make your own sporting clubs fully inclusive.

1st Session - Documentary: Equal the Contest (10am - 11:30am)

2nd Session - Panelist (11:30am - 12:00pm)
Hear from filmmaker and producer, Mitch Nivalis (they/them), and a fellow Mount Alexander falcons member on their TGD inclusion journey.
Networking Lunch (12:15pm - 1:00pm)
3rd Session - Be the Change (1:00pm - 2:00pm)
Facilitated workshop with Michaela Cook (she/her), Participation & Inclusion Manager at Vicsport
The event will provide guidance, insights, real life stories and practical strategies on how sporting organisations can create safe, supportive, and welcoming environments for Trans and Gender Diverse People. This event will also provide a great opportunity for personal and professional development, as well as chances to network with your industry peers.
Take away learnings from this forum will include:
- Practical ways to support Trans and Gender Diverse people and their families.
- Strategies SSA’s can take away to support their clubs to support TGD people.
Who should attend?
We strongly encourage leaders of sporting organisations to attend.
Staff working for State Sporting Associations, State Sport & Recreation Bodies, Regional Sport Assemblies or Local Government Authorities looking to develop their confidence as an ally, are also encouraged to attend.
