LGBTIQA+ young people’s participation in sport and physical activity: Report Launch
Join Vicsport in partnership with Swinburne University and VicHealth, for the launch of the report and findings of the VicHealth funded study: Collecting participation data on LGBTIQA+ young people in sport and physical activity.
This project is one of the first Australian studies to document participation rates of LGBTIQA+ people in sport and provide current data on the prevalence of discrimination for LGBTIQA+ people across sport and movement settings.
The report will be released the week of Monday 13th May.
Session Overview
This session will commence with the research team (Dr Ryan Storr, Dr Carleigh Yeomans, Professor Kath Albury, Associate Professor Nicky Ridgers and Professor Emma Sherry) presenting their findings from the study which will touch on:
- Participation rates of LGBTIQA+ young people in sport and physical activity.
- Current levels of discrimination and homo/bi/transphobia in sport.
- Enablers and barriers to young people’s participation in sport and physical activity.
- How the sport and leisure sector can attract, retain, and support LGBTIQA+ young people.
- Recommendations to improve outcomes for LGBTIQA+ communities through sport and movement.
A panel discussion with guest speakers (to be announced soon) will then follow along with an opportunity for participants to ask questions. The event will conclude with lunch and an opportunity to network with your peers.
