Connect & Support Participation Network - April

This Network has been designed to bring together participation and inclusion staff at State Sporting Associations (SSAs), Local Government Authorities (LGAs), Regional Sport Assemblies (RSAs) and other peak bodies.

SESSION TOPIC

In this session, we will hear from Elle Steele PLY

During a 13 year swimming career, Elle represented Australia internationally and was captain of a number of Australian swimming teams. During her career, she represented Australia at the 2000 Paralympics and held a Victorian Institute of Sport scholarship for eight years.

After swimming, Elle took up wheelchair rugby and was the only woman to be selected to play for Victoria at a national level. Elle’s ability to play sport at the highest level was overwhelmed by constant injury associated with her physical limitations, however, she always maintained a passion and determination to achieve her goals, despite those goals changing as her physical capability diminished.

Elle now focuses on helping women to use their intuition to reveal their inner business potential through online programs, monthly workshops and one-on-one sessions.

We will also hear from Max Reilly, Events & Communications Officer at Disability Sport Australia

Max is dedicated to creating positive community change through sport and health. He loves how the space can be a platform for social movement and cohesion.

Max’s involvement with charity projects connected his double sport degree of a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) to community-minded work. Placements at Exercise Research Australia and Wheelchair Rugby Victoria solidified that he wanted to enter the inclusive sport and recreation sector.

Max will be sharing some of the projects that sports can get involved with, including Activate Inclusion Sports Days and the Accessibility Champion Course developed in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission.
