2024 Annual General Meeting Election Results
At the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in-person and online on November 19, Vicsport’s affiliate members voted to elect three new members to the Vicsport board; Jason Hellwig, Allana Sharman and Andrew Skillern.
Bringing decades of combined experience across all levels of sport, Jason is the current CEO of Swimming Victoria, Alanna serves as Head of Government Relations and Strategic Projects at Netball Victoria and Andrew is the CEO of Hockey Victoria.
They join Adam Crameri, Rochelle Eime (Deputy Chair), Louise Eyres GAICD, Ruth Holdaway MBE, Rayoni Nelson OLY, Fabio Serpiello and Ayden Shaw.
At a subsequent board meeting on December 9, Jason Hellwig was elected as Vicsport Chair.
Jason Hellwig
Gaining experience with stints at Basketball NT and Athletics NT, Jason (he/him) spent seven years at Athletics Australia where he progressed from Development Officer to Development Manager and ultimately General Manager.
He then moved to the Australian Paralympic Committee, working as the Director of Sport and then CEO for five years where he led the move for sports to lead and manage their own Paralympic programs.
The Head of Sport for six Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, Jason was also appointed as the Chef de Mission for the Australian Paralympic Team during the London 2012 Games while on the commercial side, he managed the realisation of broadcast rights value for the Paralympic Games from the ABC to Channel 7.
Since 2016, Jason has served as the CEO of Swimming Victoria (SV) where he has focused on moving the sport forward with stronger governance and a more relevant member proposition. He has also overseen an emphasis on innovation and technology which has included SV partnering with Sony Hawk-Eye to develop officiating technology that was used for the first time at an Olympic Games this year in Paris.
Allana Sharman
Across Australia and the United Kingdom, Allana (she/her) brings more than 18 years of experience working in the sport and recreation industry to the Vicsport board.
She has served in roles throughout local, state and federal governments, garnering knowledge across community and professional sport, sports consultancy, government advocacy, strategic communications, partnership development and leisure planning sectors.
In her current role at Netball Victoria, where she started in February 2022, Allana heads the government and industry engagement portfolio. She has led successful advocacy to secure over $150million of funding towards the delivery of critical sporting infrastructure. She also leads commercial partnerships and is responsible for developing and delivering a range of new products to market.
In addition, Allana is the founder and managing director of Ocio Sport and Leisure Solutions, a boutique sport and recreation consultancy that specialises in infrastructure development planning, advocacy and strategic communications management.
Andrew Skillern
Andrew (he/him) is currently the CEO of Hockey Victoria (HV), a role he has fulfilled for the past ten years in addition to having served as COO between 2009-2014.
His responsibilities include strategy and business development of Hockey Victoria, the strategy and future direction of HC Melbourne as a team in the Hockey One league, sponsorship and commercial partnerships and Victorian State Government relations.
Andrew’s time in hockey also included a role as interim CEO of Hockey South Australia for two years while he worked on secondment through 2017-2018 with Hockey Australia to establish the Hockey One League (Australia’s top level hockey competition).
Prior to that, Andrew worked for Life Saving Victoria for five years across a range of areas including Aquatic Sport, Community water safety programs, club development and training and education.
Andrew has also recently joined the Australia India Business Council – Victorian Management Committee, focusing on ensuring the Victorian sport sector is appropriately represented in the country’s bi-lateral relationship.
The 2024 AGM marked the conclusion of Ritchie Hinton’s time on the Vicsport board which included a two-year tenure as Chair. Earlier in the year, we also farewelled Nicole Adamson and Nathan Lovett-Murray from the Board and our utmost and sincere thanks to all for their contributions to the growth of Vicsport.
