Victorian Paralympians Shine Bright in Rio

Vicsport would like to congratulate all Victorian involved in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. In total there were 35 Victorian athletes participating. For a full list of athletes and their results please see the table at the end of this article.

Finishing 5th overall on the medal tally, Australia won 22 gold, 30 silver and 29 bronze medals. Victoria featured strongly, bringing home 7 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze medals. Included in the list of gold medal winners was Victorian Sport Award Sportsperson of the Year winner, Dylan Alcott AM, who won 2 gold medals in the Quad Singles and Quad Doubles. Victorian Junior Athlete of the Year, Isis Holt, put in another magnificent performance claiming 2 silvers and a bronze in athletics. Carol Cook AM, another past Victorian Sport Award winner, achieved 2 gold medals in Cycling.

Behind any successful Olympic campaign is a strong support crew. 32 Victorian officials made the trip to Rio supporting the Australian Team in a variety of roles for a multitude of sports.

Vicsport hopes the success of these Paralympians will inspire sports to continue to invest in disability sport.
