SSP/RSP Physical Activity: Local Area Marketing

The next step in the SSP/RSP Physical Activity Project Sharing series is to focus on the marketing of your product, specifically to local markets and how a new product can be seen in a traditional landscape.

This session will focus on what options are available for marketing in your local area and how to assess if your marketing is successful, or how to adjust your marketing once the product has commenced and is a clearer product. The discussion will include:

- Understanding the different ways to engage a local market

- Tailoring your communications to a specific demographic in the method they prefer

- Engaging individuals whose contact information you do not currently have

The program will include a guest speaker with an extensive background in marketing and communication for NFP organisations on a small to medium scale and will include your original program presentations in a continuing role as the workshop facilitators – enabling you to connect with the same people who have an understanding of your program and how the subject matter will apply.

The guest speaker for the session is Mike Billing. Billing is an experienced sports business professional having worked in a diverse range of roles both in Australia and internationally for the past 17 years. A results-driven strategic marketing and sports management executive, Mike has proven himself to be able to deliver the most challenging and innovative projects with limited resources. At the end of 2015, Mike was voted at number 13 in Chief Marketing Officer Magazine’s Top 50 CMOs in Australia.

Mike has a wide knowledge of what makes sporting organisations successful. Most recently Mike served as the Marketing Director for Melbourne Storm where he was responsible for the membership, marketing, events, digital and media teams. Mike and his team recently launched Lightning Rewards, Australia’s first fully integrated rewards program which engages fans throughout their supporter journey using world leading technology solutions. Also in Mike’s tenure, Melbourne Storm were rated as the NRL’s number 1 game day experience and saw record crowds achieved, have grown the second largest Facebook audience in Australia across any professional sports team and have achieved record membership levels year on year.

Mike has also previously worked for the Sporting Shooters Association (Vic), Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2006 Asian Games and Sport England as part of their commercial team overseeing participation initiatives and digital programs to engage people in becoming more active.

Mike has constantly strived to bring an innovative approach to fan engagement strategies to deliver these results. These diverse experiences have led Mike to recently set up Captura Marketing. Captura is focused on delivering data driven marketing solutions to organisations of all sizes, loyalty and membership strategy as well as digital marketing and communications support.

We look forward to seeing you at the event!
