Latest Sport Participation Trends and the Focus for Recovery from COVID-19

Understanding where the greatest impacts have been in sport participation and where we need to strategically focus for the future of sport.

Vicsport have, in partnership with the Physical Activity and Sport Insights (PASI) research group (Victoria University and Federation University) and with support from VicHealth and Sport and Recreation Victoria collaborated to bring you this research-based webinar.

Background

The PASI research team (PASIglobal.com) has conducted the Sport Participation Research Project since 2015. The research knowledge from this project has helped the sports industry to understand trends in overall participation both pre and during COVID-19. The research team also conducted surveys on participation and health pre and during COVID-19 and also once we had been able to return to playing sport.

The Webinar

This webinar will share the trends in participation pre-COVID and during COVID-19. It will highlight the concerning declines amongst certain population groups in terms of participation. It will also highlight the specific health and wellbeing changes that have occurred amongst sports participants how these differ across populations groups. Based upon this research knowledge, there will be a discussion on where the sports industry needs to focus attention for the future of sport participation.

A research summary can be found here, outlining key findings and insights from the 6th year of the VicHealth and Sport and Recreation Victoria’s joint research project into organised community sport participation in Victoria.

The webinar will be led by Professors Rochelle Eime and Hans Westerbeek:
