Vicsport hosting MPIO training workshops

For Member Protection Information Officers (MPIOs), Vicsport is hosting a series of four free, interactive online workshops, that will assist attendees in utilising skills across listening, decision-making and trauma-informed practices.

The second of these workshops will be held after regular hours from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday 22 October. Called MPIO Training Part 2, this workshop follows a mandatory online component (Part 1) that must be completed before attending. That training can be found via Sport Integrity Australia’s eLearning Portal.

“In order to complete the MPIO training course and earn an MPIO Training Certificate, registrants must attend both parts with Part 2 being run by a trained facilitator,” said Vicsport Manager Strategic Projects, Anthony Bowd.

“With support from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Vicsport has been able to organise online workshops free of charge for registrants to conclude their training. The next session will be held on October 22 and we expect additional workshops to be run in March and June 2025.”

The October workshop, to be run by Morgan Lander, will delve into the responsibilities of an MPIO including advice for those who have witnessed or experienced a potential breach of prohibited conduct as well as advice on what clubs can do to promote safe, fair and inclusive sport. Opportunities will also be provided to put newfound skills into practice through practical scenarios.

“It will be very beneficial for our attendees to have Morgan running the session as he is an independent representative on the National Reference Group for Play By The Rules and has assisted Sport Australia in child safe risk management, complaint handling and member protection for more than a decade,” said Anthony.

“He is also an independent MPIO for various national and state sporting organisations and has completed the review to refresh the National MPIO Part 2 training package.”

Once participants have registered, they will receive a workbook covering pre-workshop reading and then, post-event, they will be able to access an MPIO Training Certificate from Play by the Rules/Sport Integrity Australia.
