Welcome to the Sport Industry

People often say they ‘learn more on the job.’ This event gives new sports administrators and board members key insights so you don’t have to learn everything the hard way!

Arrive at 8am for networking opportunities over tea, coffee and a light breakfast.

Topics include:

  • The structure of the sports industry: the key stakeholders, how sport is funded and common partnership models.
  • Participation trends: how sports organisations are using innovation to ‘grow the pie’ and get more people active through sport and recreation.
  • Governance and policy: legislation and policy that affects sport organisations.

You will hear from Bianca Chatfield, former Australian Netballer, Leadership consultant, Media presenter

After taking the sporting world by storm, Gold medal winning netballer Bianca Chatfield's journey from professional athlete to leading media personality and business owner is indicative of her vivacious nature, dedication and professionalism across all fields.

Following her debut as an 18-year-old for the Australian Diamonds netball team, Bianca quickly established a name for herself as one of the toughest defenders in the sport. During her time on the netball court, Bianca endured some tough times but also enjoyed great success; wining both gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth Games alongside a host of premiership victories and awards. A celebrated athlete and excellent communicator, Bianca fast became one of the prominent voices in Australian netball. Since her retirement from the sport in 2015, Bianca has continued to focus on her leadership work, growing media presence, pursuing numerous exciting opportunities across television and radio.

Bianca’s passion and advocacy for women in sport led her to write her first book, Game On which expanded into the online mentor program, The Ignition Project. This personal project seeks to empower women to identify their passion and enable them to get the best out of themselves – whether on court or in life!

These days you will find (a very busy!) Bianca in various media and leadership roles. She regularly features on House of Wellness (Ch7), hosts Women’s Footy (ch9), commentates the Netball (ch9) and talking sport on Offsiders (ABC).

Bianca took on the enormous task as president of the Australian Netball Players’ Association from 2010 - 2017, and now her board representation consists of The Ready Foundation and she was recently appointed to the MCG Trust on a five-year term.

Bianca works with a closely considered pool of brands in an Ambassadorship capacity such as, Chemist Warehouse, Victoria University, and Lexus of Berwick.
