The team at Vicsport stepped out of the office and into SSA land to chat to our members and find out what they are doing to prepare for the incoming mandatory board quotas and the Child Safe Standards (the Standards).
For those of you who don’t know, Vicsport is based in Albert Road, South Melbourne, next door to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). We love getting out and talking to our members, emails are great, but we find face to face conversations are easier for us to fully understand how we can be of service to our member’s needs.
L-R: Fiona Jones, Tom Dixon and Jasmine Richwol on set filming child safe and quotas videos at MSAC
We understand that when to comes to child safety and board quotas, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed and not know what to do to meet both the Standards and quotas. We hear questions from our members; Where do I start? Who can I speak to for help? That’s why we (Vicsport) decided the best course of action would be to find out what exactly our members are doing to prepare for the quotas and the Standards, and share their stories with the wider sporting community.
Case studies are a great way to learn how other organisations operate, and more often than not, there are similarities and practices that can be replicated from one to the other.
We teamed up with our preferred supplier My Sport Live to create video content on the Standards and quotas.
The following SSAs were interviewed for the child safety videos:
- Gymnastics Victoria
- Life Saving Victoria
- Swimming Victoria
- Volleyball Victoria
Alison Lyons, General Manager at Gymnastics Victoria talking Child Safe Standards with Jasmine Richwol
Content of the interviews included information on how SSAs raise awareness to their members of the Standards and what strategies have been implemented to assist clubs in readiness to meet them.
The Standards are now in place. Head to our website https://vicsport.com.au/child-safe-standards for resources to download, new videos will be released in May.
The following SSAs were interviewed for the incoming board quotas videos:
- Cycling Victoria
- Little Athletics Victoria
- Squash and Racquetball Victoria
Vicsport Participation Strategy Manager Tom Dixon interviewing Anthony McIntosh, CEO Little Athletics Victoria
Keep an eye on our social media channels and the Vicsport website for the release of these videos in June.
And finally, we are here to help and support your organisation. If you would like us to run a workshop and information session on how your organisation can prepare and meet the Standards, get in touch with us. We’re always available for a confidential chat on 9698 8100.
