Protection Against UV

Sunlight is the main source of Ultraviolet Radiation, and it would be unwise to stay inside if it would keep you from being active because we all know the importance of physical activity for good health and well-being.

However, getting too much sun can be harmful and there are some simple steps you can take to limit your exposure to UV radiation.

Some people think about sun protection only when they spend a day at the beach or pool, but the sun can be pretty powerful and after consecutive days in the sun, excessive exposure to UV can have long lasting effects.

Simply staying in the shade is one of the best ways to limit your UV exposure and the same applies when playing sport outdoors. If you are going to be in the sun, “Slip! Slop! Slap!”

This catchphrase is so well known nowadays, young children are learning it at pre-school.

  • Slip on a shirt.
  • Slop on sunscreen.
  • Slap on a hat.

Vicsport has partnered with VicHealth and SunSmart to compile a suite of resources to assist sporting organisations to understand the risks of UV and UV exposure.
