Response to the Australian Sports Commission’s Governance Reform in Sport: Discussion Paper

Further to Vicsport’s previous communications in regard to the Australian Sports Commission's (ASC) Governance Discussion Paper, please find below a paper jointly prepared by the State & Territory Departments of Sport & Recreation (ie. SRV and the equivalent State & Territory Government Departments throughout Australia) in response to the ASC’s Paper.  The ASC’s Governance Discussion Paper is also available to be downloaded for your information. Download - Response to the Australian Sports Commission’s Governance Reform in Sport: Discussion Paper Download - Governance Reform in Sport: Discussion Paper The ASC’s Discussion Paper focuses on various voting systems within National Sporting Organisations (NSO), and the member rights attributed to those votes.  It examines the origins and merits of the models and systems by looking at Australian and international examples within not-for-profit and for-profit environments. If implemented many of the reforms detailed in this discussion paper will have a significant impact on State Sporting Associations. Vicsport Members are strongly encouraged to read the attached paper and to consider making a submission in response to the ASC’s Paper – submissions are due by 8 January, 2016 (see www.ausport.gov.au/ for further information). Vicsport will also be making a submission on behalf of Members which will be based upon the ASC Information Session for NSOs and SSAs and the Vicsport Sports Talk Forum (19 November, 2015).  Vicsport Members are also invited to provide their written feedback to Vicsport via direct email to me markm@vicsport.com.au.
