Forward Thinking Series – creating a roap map to shape and support sport for the future

Remember life without your iPhone or smart phone?  A difficult concept but this was reality pre-launch in 2007.

Both technology and society evolve at a rapid pace. Community sport as a business needs to maintain the pace. The challenge to get people active through sport is more difficult than ever but there are also more opportunities through smart technology and networking.

Vicsport has partnered with VicHealth to assist in building industry capability to face this challenge.  This has taken the form of presenting innovative labs, workshops and other development opportunities to respond to the rapidly changing business of community sport.

The Forward Thinking Series has brought together leaders from the fields of sport and physical activity to explore developments in service design, technology, social enterprise, communications and community development.

Those involved in the series have discovered how they can

  • design and deliver engaging and sustainable service offerings,
  • think and work together more effectively
  • identify and capitalise on emerging opportunities now and into the future; and
  • really know if what they are doing is effective.

Sessions so far have been:

  • Feb 17 – Insight and Innovation Labs
  • March 19 – Innovation in action: Generating ideas simply and quickly
  • April 28 – Making Ideas happen: concept development made easy
  • June 16 – Scaling innovation and measuring impact

The Forward Thinking Series has been facilitated by leading social innovators and collaborative thinkers, Collabforge and DoingSomethingGood. Events have been held in venues that are amongst Melbourne’s most unique and innovative spaces, including the Drill Hall, Abbotsford Convent and Donkey Wheel House.

Forward Thinking Series events have been run in conjunction with the Emerging and Leading Thinkers workshops to develop a road map to shape and support sport for the future.  Look out for this road map on the Vicsport website from August of this year.
